McPherson Public Schools broke ground on a new athletic facility at McPherson High School on Monday, June 13, 2022.
During the ceremony, Dr. Vincent thanked those involved in the process, including McPherson Public Schools Staff, Board of Education Members, community members and coaches. He shared remarks from Mr. Carol Swenson, longtime athletic director for McPherson Public Schools who is a continuous advocate for all extracurricular programs here in McPherson. Mr. Swenson had shared that "it feels like today's groundbreaking ceremony is the answer to so many prayers. For 30 years, a facility like this is exactly what McPherson Public Schools needed."
Board President Jeff Johnson thanked the group for attending and shared some of the history of this project. The need for this space was identified as a pre-bond project and the new team of Board members worked diligently this spring to get the project to this point.

Luke Amend with Hutton Construction shared some of the potential uses for the facility, including science and math lessons, photography, PE classes, sporting events and community activities. The space will be used by a wide range of people every day.
After remarks, a group of Board Members, staff and coaches performed a ceremonial groundbreaking to allow the project to commence.
Construction will be ongoing through the summer and the team anticipates games being played in the new space in October 2022.
