On Tuesday, August 8, 2017, the Kansas State Board of Education named McPherson USD 418 as one of the seven Kansas school districts participating in the Kansans Can School Redesign Project. School and community leaders were present at the state board meeting for official recognition of this designation.
At the meeting on Tuesday morning, USD 418 Superintendent Gordon Mohn briefly addressed the board regarding reasons why the school district is joining this effort. This recognition was followed by a press conference and luncheon for the participating schools. According to Superintendent Mohn, “It is a distinct honor to join the efforts of other Kansas schools that are willing to look differently at how we prepare students to be successful adults. McPherson has a long tradition of designing our schools to meet the needs of students
and the community. For us, this is the ‘next step’ in the district’s Citizenship, College and Career Readiness (C3) efforts.”
Each district selected was required to name an elementary and secondary school in the district to participate in the effort. Eisenhower Elementary and McPherson Middle School are representing USD 418. According to Mohn, “Other schools in the district will benefit from the redesign efforts at Eisenhower and the Middle School. While EES and MMS will be taking the lead, our work will have an impact on all buildings.”
